Glyn Mason was caught up in the mid 60′s music explosion in New Zealand and, after a stint at art school, began ‘ life on the road ‘. He ended up joining a successful band called The Rebels and arrived in Australia in 1969 on the back of a hit single.
From there on in Glyn was involved with and spawned many beloved Aussie bands such as Chain, Ariel, Home, Copperwine, Baby Loves To Cha Cha, The Loose String Band, and Stockley, See & Mason.
Eventually Glyn began writing more original material as a solo artist, and now continues this journey with his fellow collaborater Sam See in The Pardoners.
(As we recall it, in the Middle Ages “Pardoners” were licensed by the church to sell Papal Indulgences to the faithful. These indulgences were supposed to expiate the sins of the faithful. The irony being that the Pardoners were often committing the same sins, by the bucketload, they were supposed to be pardoning…)
The Pardoners latest album “Indulgences” covers a raft of human experience in modern Australia – from loss to salvation, from bushfires to the canola fields, from personal accountability to life lived on the Internet.
“We decided to call the album, “Indulgences” because we don’t like being bogged down in one specific direction. Obviously that is poison for traditional record companies who are in the business of selling sausages. We prefer our sausages to have different flavours, so the new album covers a lot of styles we like.”
Like the Pardoners of old, the pair are hoping to spread the forgiveness globally, for an entirely reasonable fee!
